Volume and tone controls with 5 way blade switch It’s been a fun process.PRS Custom 24 Flame Maple Artist Top (Artist Package) We are very proud of how far we’ve come in the understanding and making of pickups. “To our ears, the results are very musical. Our more refined ability to be able to tune those factors is what we have incorporated into TCI pickups,” said Paul Reed Smith. When you wind a pickup, the coils are capacitors, resistors, and inductors simultaneously. “TCI stands for Tuned Capacitance Inductance. That process has now been applied to all PRS pickups offered on our Core line of instruments, with the exception of a few artist Signature models. But, TCI is more than a pickup, it’s a process. Last year, PRS announced TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) pickups on the Paul’s Guitar. It is that passion, care, and tenacity that has permeated PRS Guitars’ culture and led to the constant evolution of PRS products. Paul Reed Smith is known as a man who studies history, scrutinizes the details, and never stops applying what he learns to his own instruments. ![]() It’s All in the Details: TCI-Tuned Pickups The "Pattern Thin" neck is an updated version of PRS’s traditional Wide Thin neck. These new neck shapes reflect modern tooling and programming that allows us to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce our necks. The new "Pattern Regular" neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS regular neck found on guitars made in the late 80’s at PRS’s former Virginia Avenue location. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of our quality. Position Four: Neck single-coil with bridge single-coil, in parallel Position Three: Bridge and neck humbuckers Position Two: Bridge humbucker with neck single-coil, in parallel Since its introduction, it has offered a unique tonal option for serious players and defined PRS tone and playability. The PRS Custom 24 is one of those instruments! There's a very real thing that can happen when you pick up a guitar that is just so inspiring that it makes you a better player by not only being easier to play but also by giving you more motivation to pick it up and play it every chance that you get. Chords and single-note lead lines feel amazingly comfortable all the way up and down the neck. It's a shop favorite if you aren't the shredding type (for that we tend to recommend the pattern thin neck shapes). The pattern regular neck gives you a nice bit of wood to hold onto without being too bulky. They handle saturation and distortion with grace and ease. These are a faithful recreation of the pickups that put Paul Reed Smith on the map, but now they come TCI tuned which, long story short, makes them even better than they were before! They sound vintage enough to get the job done if that's what you need but can also more than handle their own in more modern settings as well. The majority of Custom 24's, these days, are coming with 85/15 pickups, and for good reason. An artist grade flame maple top is vibrant and heavily figured while a dark, highly coveted Brazilian rosewood fretboard provides some nice brightness to the tone. The rosewood neck is one of our favorite feeling necks ever. Music Store Live is proud to offer up this Artist Package Custom 24 from Paul Reed Smith.
